Proletarianisation under Neoliberalism in the Arab World

Between 1980 and 2010, around seventy million people left the countryside for the cities in the Arab world. This figure is nearly equivalent to the total number of rural-urban migrants since the beginning of the twentieth century until 1980. A massive socialisation of the labour force was met with increasing privatisation of output or rising inequality.
